SIGLENT’s new SDS1000X-E Series Super Phosphor Oscilloscope is available in one bandwidth, 200 MHz. It has a maximum sample rate of 1 GSa/s and a standard record length of 14 Mpts. For ease-of-use, the most commonly used functions can be accessed with its user-friendly front panel design.

The SDS1000X-E series employs a new generation of SPO (Super Phosphor Oscilloscope) technology that provides excellent signal fidelity and performance. The system noise is also lower than similar products in the industry. It comes with a minimum vertical input range of 500 uV/div, an innovative digital trigger system with high sensitivity and
low jitter, and a waveform capture rate of 400,000 frames/ sec (sequence mode). The SDS1000X-E also employs a256-level intensity grading display function and a color
temperature display mode not found in other models in this class. Siglent’s latest oscilloscopes offering supportsmultiple powerful triggering modes including serial bus
triggering. Decoding is standard configuration including IIC,SPI,UART,CAN,LIN. History waveform recording and sequential triggering enable extended waveform recording
and analysis. Another powerful addition is the new 1 million points FFT math function that gives the SDS1000X-E very high frequency resolution when observing signal spectra. The new design also includes a hardware co-processor that delivers measurements quickly and accurately. I bough this scope to replace an old analogue scope, and to compliment my larger (but older) LeCroy scope. A 2-channel scope with analogue-like display that costs almost the same as an old Tek analogue scope seemed like a no-brainer.

However, this scope is so much better than I thought it would be!

For me the most important benefit is that the scope is fast. Not just fast waveform update rate (which is has), but a fast UI - it never gets bogged down. Every time you twiddle a control, the scope responds. It makes debugging so much faster.

Having segmented memory (history) mode always active is such a good thing. When you are debugging a complex signal, being able to review what happened in slow motion is so educational. You don't have to set this up, it's always there when you press stop -- again, it makes debugging so much faster.

Free serial decoding! So very useful. Though, it's not really "real-time".

In fact, many of the features billed as real-time are not. For example, measurements and statistics do update, but only at about 1Hz, so even if you are capturing 1000 waveforms a second you only get statistics updating using one of these waveforms every second. This is a shame because fast statistics updates can be such a great way to get confidence in a signal. Then again, this scope is very low cost! But these features don't slow down the UI. If I had to choose between faster measurements and a slow UI, or slower measurements and a fast UI, I'd take the fast UI every time. so I can see why Siglent has done this. It keeps the UI very responsive.

There are a few bugs in the firmware that hopefully will be fixed soon in an update. The most annoying is when you set a DC offset. This is relative to the currently selected V/div scale, rather than being absolute. So, for example, if you set a 1V offset then change the vertical scaling the offset will change, so you have to keep adjusting as you zoom in and out. What you want is it to stay at 1V then you can refine it as you zoom in. It's very annoying but you can work around it.

Honestly, since getting the Siglent, the LeCroy has hardly been on. It's that good! The Siglent has lower noise, much faster waveform updates and more responsive UI. But it is only 2 channels and has a smaller, non touch-screen display so it can't replace the LeCroy for everything.

Would I buy this scope again? Definitely!

This is my first oscilloscope - not the cheapest but nearly so and appears to offer better specs than anything cheaper. It was very easy to set up and use - pretty much straight out of the box on default setup I was able to see the I2C clock and data channels between a development FT232 module and some PIC chips and see what was going wrong. Checked some tutorial videos to see what was needed and set trigger options to set a one shot trigger, but default auto setup gave close to what I needed and the intuitive user interface made it easy to explore the available options to capture what was happening on the I2C line. Overall, a good spec for the price but more importantly, the well deigned user interface made it easy to access the features and solve problems that had been holding me up for a while - should have got a scope like this ages ago! Cannot be sure about the durability as I've only had it 2 days but seems well build :)

Good price for good oscilloscope, if in the future firmware upgrade the user can change the dimension of the fonts specially for read values it will be the top for its price, because they are too small

The SDS 1202X-E has excellent performance, the user interface is friendly and overall great value for money. Would definitely recommend this product to interested purchasers.
