Features in depth

Built for the field

Built for the field

An 8.4-inch multi-touch display, a rugged 3.2 kg body and roughly four hours of battery mean the SHA850A goes where the signal is — up the mast, out to the site or into the equipment room — with mouse and keyboard supported when you need them.

  • 8.4-inch capacitive multi-touch screen
  • 3.2 kg net weight, ~4 h typical battery
  • Mouse & keyboard supported
  • Standard preamplifier for weak-signal work in the field

Two instruments in one: analyzer + cable/antenna

Spectrum analysis and cable-and-antenna testing are both standard, so a single handheld commissions and maintains RF systems: sweep the spectrum, then check the feedline and antenna without swapping tools.

  • Spectrum: channel power, ACPR, harmonics, TOI (with AMK)
  • Cable & antenna: VSWR, return loss, cable loss
  • Distance-to-fault (DTF) and TDR to locate faults
  • Optional 1-path-2-port VNA, S11/S21, 114 dB dynamic range

Every input and output

Every input and output

The top panel carries the whole connector set — two N-type RF ports for the analyzer, source and 1-path-2-port VNA, reference and trigger inputs, GPS and DC-bias, USB, LAN and audio — so the SHA850A drops straight into a field or bench setup.

  • RF In / Port 2 and Source / Port 1 — two N-type ports (max +30 dBm and +27 dBm, 50 VDC) for the analyzer input, tracking source and 1-path-2-port VNA
  • Ref In & Trig In (BNC) — lock to a 10 MHz house reference and trigger externally
  • GPS Ant (SMA) for positioning & logging, and Bias Out (SMA) delivering 12–32 V DC to tower-mounted amplifiers
  • USB-C device port (PC / remote control) and USB-A host (storage, mouse & keyboard)
  • LAN (RJ-45) for LXI / web-browser remote, plus a 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • 9–12 VDC (4 A) power input and a Kensington security-lock slot

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the SHA851A and SHA852A?

Frequency range: the SHA851A covers 9 kHz to 3.6 GHz and the SHA852A to 7.5 GHz. Everything else — the 8.4-inch touch platform, cable-and-antenna tester, preamplifier and options — is identical, and the SHA851A upgrades to 7.5 GHz with the F2 licence.

Can I upgrade the frequency range later?

Yes. The SHA850-F2 licence lifts an SHA851A from 3.6 GHz to the full 7.5 GHz, so you can buy the lower model now and extend when you need it.

Does it test cables and antennas?

Yes — spectrum analysis and cable-and-antenna testing are both standard. You get VSWR, return loss, cable loss, distance-to-fault (DTF) and TDR through the N-type port, and an optional 12–32 V DC bias output for tower-mounted amplifiers.

Can it work as a vector network analyzer?

With the SHA850-VNA licence it becomes a 1-path-2-port vector network analyzer, measuring vector S11 and S21 with up to 114 dB dynamic range — useful for filter, component and antenna characterisation in the field.

How portable is it, and can it hunt interference?

It has an 8.4-inch multi-touch screen, weighs 3.2 kg and runs about four hours on battery. Add the GPS and MAP licences to log positions and overlay signals on indoor/outdoor maps for interference hunting and site survey.
