Frequently asked questions

Siglent RF & microwave signal generators.

What's the difference between analog and vector signal generators?

Analog generators produce a clean carrier with AM, FM, ΦM and pulse modulation — ideal for receiver test, LO substitution and general RF. Vector generators add I/Q modulation so you can generate modern digital standards (LTE, 5G, WLAN, custom waveforms). Which Siglent models have I/Q: the SSG6000A-V and SSG5000X-V have an internal baseband generator (true vector); the SSG3000X-IQE adds an I/Q modulator that needs an external baseband source (e.g. an SDG6000X). The SSG5000A and SSG6000A are analog-only (AM/FM/ΦM & pulse, no I/Q).

Which model has the lowest phase noise?

The SSG6000A microwave series leads the family at −135 dBc/Hz @1 GHz (10 kHz offset, typ.). The SSG5000X and SSG5000A reach −120 dBc/Hz, and the SSG3000X −110 dBc/Hz (20 kHz offset).

What frequency ranges are available?

From 9 kHz up to 40 GHz: SSG3000X to 3.2 GHz, SSG5000X to 6 GHz, SSG6000A-V to 8 GHz, SSG5000A to 20 GHz, and SSG6000A to 13.6, 20 or 40 GHz.

How much I/Q modulation bandwidth does the vector model offer?

The SSG6000A-V provides 500 MHz RF (I+Q) bandwidth as standard, expandable to 1000 MHz (option SSG6080AV-B1000), with ARB sampling up to 1.25 GSa/s and symbol rates to 625 MHz. The SSG5000X-V offers 75 MHz internal I/Q bandwidth as standard, upgradable to 150 MHz (option SSG5000XV-B150). Waveforms can be built in the SigIQPro PC software with optional standard-specific licenses (5G NR, LTE, WLAN, Bluetooth and more).

What modulation types are supported?

All SSG generators support AM, FM and ΦM/PM plus pulse modulation (≥70 dBc on/off ratio on the SSG3000X), with an optional pulse-train generator. Vector models add arbitrary I/Q for digital modulation.

Are calibration certificates available?

Yes. Every unit ships with a factory ISO calibration certificate, and we offer accredited ISO/DKD (DAkkS) calibration and recalibration on request — see our calibration services.
