Frequently asked questions
Choosing and using a Siglent function / arbitrary waveform generator.
What is the difference between a function generator and an arbitrary waveform generator?
A function generator outputs standard waveforms such as sine, square, ramp, pulse and noise, while an arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) can also output any user-defined waveform. Every Siglent SDG series does both — they are function / arbitrary waveform generators.
Which Siglent waveform generator should I choose?
Match the maximum frequency and channel count to your work. The SDG800 (1-channel, up to 30 MHz) and SDG1000X Plus (2-channel, up to 60 MHz) suit education and general bench use; the SDG2000X and SDG3000X (up to 120 / 200 MHz) suit R&D; and the SDG6000X, SDG7000A and SDG8000A cover high-bandwidth, IQ and vector / RF work up to 5 GHz.
What do TrueArb and EasyPulse mean?
TrueArb plays arbitrary waveforms point-by-point so no samples are skipped, giving lower jitter than classic DDS. EasyPulse generates square and pulse waveforms with low jitter and fine, independently adjustable rise/fall times and width. Both are standard across the SDG X-series.
Which models support IQ / vector signal generation?
Internal or optional IQ / vector signal generation is available on the SDG6000X, SDG7000A and SDG8000A. The flagship SDG8000A includes a full internal IQ modulator with output up to 5 GHz.
Do the generators include software and remote control?
Yes. All models include the free EasyWave / EasyWaveX PC waveform editor and SCPI remote control over USB, with LAN on most models. The SDG1000X Plus and higher also provide a built-in web server for browser-based control.
Are these generators available with warranty and calibration in Europe?
Yes. As the official Siglent distributor for Europe (JRSE B.V., Helmond) we ship from EU stock with a 3-year warranty and optional ISO / DKD calibration, backed by local application support.
