It combines 0.001 Hz frequency resolution, –130 dBm to +25 dBm output range with 0.01 dB steps, and low phase noise (< –120 dBc/Hz @ 1 GHz, 20 kHz offset, typ.) for reliable device and system verification. Standard AM/FM/PM analog modulation is built in, with optional pulse and pulse-train capabilities.

The Siglent SSG5083A is a powerful and versatile microwave signal generator that delivers clean, stable, and precise CW signals across a wide frequency range of 9 kHz to 13.6 GHz. Built for engineers, researchers, and production environments that demand absolute reliability, the SSG5085A combines exceptional performance with intuitive operation. Whether you are developing next-generation wireless systems, testing radar and aerospace equipment, or verifying RF components in the lab, this instrument provides the accuracy and flexibility you need.

At its core, the SSG5083A offers excellent signal purity, with phase noise better than –120 dBc/Hz @ 1 GHz, 20 kHz offset (typ.), ensuring trustworthy measurements even in the most demanding applications. Its 0.001 Hz frequency resolution allows for ultra-fine tuning, while the wide output power range of –130 dBm to +25 dBm gives you the versatility to test everything from highly sensitive receivers to robust communication systems. With ≤ 0.7 dB level accuracy (typ.), every measurement you make is both repeatable and dependable.

Designed for flexibility, the SSG5083A includes standard AM, FM, and PM analog modulation, supporting both internal and external sources. For more advanced needs, optional pulse modulation and pulse-train generation expand its capabilities — making it ideal for radar, defense, and time-domain experiments. This combination of high-performance signal generation and powerful modulation options makes the SSG5083A a complete solution for modern RF and microwave testing.

Ease of use is another hallmark of this instrument. The 5-inch capacitive touch screen provides a modern, responsive interface that simplifies setup and operation, while USB power sensor support enhances accuracy by enabling automatic level calibration. For integration into automated test systems, the SSG5083A offers LAN, USB, and optional GPIB interfaces, along with web remote control, allowing full access and control directly from your browser.

The Siglent SSG5083A Microwave Signal Generator is more than just an instrument — it is a reliable partner for innovation. By combining a wide frequency range, excellent signal fidelity, and powerful modulation functions in a compact and user-friendly design, it empowers engineers, researchers, and educators to push boundaries and deliver results with confidence.

Applications

The SSG50853A is ideally suited for:

  • Wireless communication research and testing (5G, Wi-Fi, satellite links)

  • Radar and defense systems development

  • Component testing, including amplifiers, filters, and mixers

  • Production line verification of RF modules and subsystems

  • Educational and research laboratories requiring a high-performance microwave source

Pulse train generator

The pulse-train generator lets you create user-defined pulse sequences for radar, gating, and timing experiments. Build lists of pulses with independent on/off times and repeat counts, then output them from the rear PULSE IN/OUT connector while your RF stays on-carrier. Choose single, double, or train modes, set internal or external trigger, and synchronize with other instruments via trigger in/out. From the touchscreen or SCPI, you can store and recall sequences, align RF and pulse timing, and automate tests—ideal for receiver characterization, switching tests, and EMI/EMC workflows.

Double pulse modulation

Double pulse mode gates the RF with two closely spaced pulses per period, ideal for characterizing rise/fall behavior, recovery time, and T/R switch dynamics. Configure independent widths for Pulse #1 and #2, plus the inter-pulse delay, overall period/PRF, and polarity. Use internal or external trigger, and synchronize other gear via rear Trigger/Pulse Out. From the touchscreen or SCPI, you can quickly dial in timings for radar simulations, receiver blanking/AGC tests, and transient response measurements.

External USB Power Sensor (Cable-Loss Compensation)

Connect a compatible USB power sensor to the host port and measure power at the DUT, not just at the generator. Enable closed-loop leveling so the SSG5085A automatically adjusts its output to hit your target level at the sensor, removing cable and fixture losses. Use Fill Flatness with Sensor to sweep and create a frequency-dependent correction table, keeping delivered power accurate even with long runs and adapters. The result is repeatable, temperature-stable level at the DUT—no manual corrections, just true loss-compensated output.
