SPS5165X — 3-channel 1080 W programmable DC supply

The SPS5165X delivers 1080 W across a wide-range output of 0–160 V and 0–7.5 A spread over 3 independent channels. Because it is a constant-power design, the full wattage is available across a broad voltage and current envelope — not just at one operating point — so a single unit covers work that would otherwise need two supplies.

It behaves like a test instrument rather than a bench brick: 1 mV / 1 mA resolution, CV/CC priority with adjustable slew rates, programmable output resistance to emulate a real source, an internal discharge circuit, 50-step list sequences, and full remote control over USB, LAN (with a built-in web server) or the analog control interface.

Why a wide-range supply

The capabilities that make the SPS5165X behave like a programmable source, not a fixed rail.

Wide-range constant power

Wide-range constant power

This is what separates the SPS5000X from an ordinary supply. Instead of full power at a single voltage/current point, the output follows a constant-power envelope (ratio 3.33) — so the same unit delivers 160 V at reduced current or the full 7.5 A at reduced voltage. One instrument covers applications that would otherwise need two, and you buy watts rather than a fixed rail.

CV / CC priority and slew control

CV / CC priority and slew control

Choose whether the supply comes up in constant-voltage or constant-current priority, and set how fast — voltage 0.1–80 V/s, current 0.01 – 15 A/s. A sensitive DUT can be eased up gently to avoid inrush and overshoot; a stress test can snap the rail up. Load transient recovery is < 2 ms, so the rail holds when the load steps.

Sequenced multi-channel start-up

Sequenced multi-channel start-up

With 3 channels in one box you can set an on/off delay per channel, so rails come up (and go down) in the order your design requires — the classic requirement for FPGAs, SoCs and mixed-signal boards.

List mode — sequences without a PC

List mode — sequences without a PC

Up to 50 steps of voltage, current and dwell time, edited on the panel or imported from a USB stick. Crank profiles, brown-outs, staged start-up and endurance cycling all run standalone.

Programmable output resistance

Programmable output resistance

Set an internal resistance (0 – 24 Ω) so the supply behaves like a real source — a battery with internal impedance, or a long cable run. The DUT sees realistic droop instead of an ideal stiff rail.

Internal discharge circuit

Internal discharge circuit

Switch on the discharge circuit and the output falls quickly when you program it down, instead of waiting for a light load to drain the capacitance. It makes stepping profiles and test cycles far faster.

External analog programming

External analog programming

Control voltage or current from an external 0–5 V signal or a resistance, and read the output back through the monitor outputs — the interface that lets the supply become part of a larger analog control loop.

Web server and remote control

Web server & remote control

LAN with an embedded web server means a browser is all you need — no driver, no software install. USB and full SCPI cover scripted control, with a USB-GPIB adapter available for legacy racks.

Key features

 • 3 channels of 0–160 V / 0–7.5 A (360 W each) — 1080 W total
 • Wide-range constant power (ratio 3.33) — high voltage or high current from the same supply, so one unit covers jobs that would need two
 • 1 mV / 1 mA setting and readback resolution on a 2.4″ high-brightness OLED
 • CV / CC priority selection with adjustable voltage and current slew rates — bring a rail up gently or snap it up fast
 • Load transient recovery < 2 ms · ripple 60 mVp-p / 12 mVrms
 • Programmable output resistance (0 – 24 Ω) to emulate a real source such as a battery
 • Internal discharge circuit pulls the output down fast instead of waiting for the load to drain it
 • List mode up to 50 steps · external analog V/R programming · V/I monitor outputs
 • OVP, OCP, LPP and OTP protection with remote voltage sense
 • USB, LAN with embedded web server and analog control standard — USB-GPIB optional

Application examples

Power a whole system from one box

3 isolated channels, each fully programmable, replace a stack of separate supplies — and the multi-channel delay function lets you sequence them so rails come up in the order your design expects.

One supply instead of two

Constant-power operation means the full 1080 W is available across a wide envelope — 160 V at low current for a high-voltage rail, or the full 7.5 A at low voltage for a heavy load. A conventional supply gives you full power at only one point.

Battery packs, EV and solar work

160 V covers multi-cell packs, DC-link rails and PV string simulation. Programmable output resistance emulates a real source’s internal impedance, so the DUT sees a supply that behaves like the battery it will ship with.

LED lighting and precision loads

Fine 1 mA setting resolution with tight readback makes it suitable for LED strings and other loads where a small current change matters.

Automated test racks

LAN with an embedded web server, USB and a full analog control interface — drive it from SCPI, a browser, or an external 0–5 V signal from the rest of your rig. The 1/2 rack width chassis racks up neatly with the SPS5000X-RMK.

Need more than one unit can give?

SPS5000X supplies combine — up to 320 V in series, 270 A in parallel and 3240 W together.

Series — two units, up to 320 V

Series — two units, up to 320 V

Stack two supplies with the SPS5000X-SEC cable set and the pair behaves as one higher-voltage source. Useful when a DC-link, string or insulation test needs more headroom than a single unit provides.

Parallel — three units, up to 270 A

Parallel — three units, up to 270 A

Connect up to three units with the SPS5000X-PAC cable set for a single high-current output, sharing the load automatically. Combined output reaches 3240 W without changing your test setup.
