SDS2000HD-FG — the built-in 25 MHz waveform generator

A software key that unlocks the waveform generator built into the SDS2000X HD: sine to 25 MHz at 125 MSa/s and 14 bits — and, with it, the sweep source for the Bode plot.

The generator hardware is in every SDS2000X HD; the key switches it on. It produces sine, square, ramp, pulse, DC and noise and plays arbitrary waveforms from a 16 kpts memory, with 45 shapes built in. An arbitrary waveform can be loaded from EasyWaveX, from a USB stick, or copied straight from a waveform the oscilloscope has just captured — so a signal seen once can be replayed into the circuit.

The more important reason to have it is the Bode plot. The function is standard on the series, but it needs a source to sweep. With the generator enabled, the oscilloscope drives the circuit and measures gain and phase by itself, and a loop response or a filter curve needs no second instrument on the bench.

Siglent SDS2000X HD oscilloscope, the instrument the SDS2000HD-FG key is for
The SDS2000X HD: the oscilloscope this key is for. The unit photographed carries the 500 MHz label of the same chassis.

What the key adds

Six basic waveforms

Sine to 25 MHz, square and pulse to 10 MHz, ramp to 300 kHz, plus DC and noise.

Arbitrary waveforms

45 built in, or your own: from EasyWaveX, a USB stick or a captured channel, up to 5 MHz.

The Bode plot source

The oscilloscope sweeps its own generator and plots gain and phase, with gain and phase margin read out.

Protected output

±1.5 V into 50 Ω or ±3 V into a high impedance, with over-voltage protection and current limit.

Which oscilloscope it is for

Both models of the SDS2000X HD series, and an SDS2104X HD you already own. Keys for other Siglent series have their own order codes and are not interchangeable.

What it is not

The data sheet lists continuous waveforms; it lists no sweep, burst or modulation functions for the built-in generator. For those, or for two channels and more output voltage, a Siglent SDG generator is the right tool — and the Bode plot can drive one over USB or LAN. Where the injection point of a loop measurement must float, the isolated SAG1021I module is the alternative.

DeliveryLicence key for the instrument’s serial number

From the SDS2000X HD data sheet EN02B. I²C, SPI, UART, CAN and LIN trigger and decode are standard on the series; all other protocols are listed on the licences page.

How it is delivered

1 · Send us the serial number

A software key is generated for one instrument. Add the serial number to the order, or mail it afterwards.

2 · Receive the key

The licence key is delivered by e-mail — nothing is shipped and nothing leaves your bench.

3 · Enter it on the oscilloscope

Enter the key in the options menu; the generator then opens with the Wave Gen key on the front panel and stays with that unit.

Questions about the SDS2000HD-FG

Is the generator hardware already in my oscilloscope?

Yes. Every SDS2000X HD has it; this key enables it. Nothing is opened or fitted.

Do I need this key for a Bode plot?

You need a sweep source. That is this generator, an SAG1021I USB module, or a Siglent SDG generator connected by USB or LAN. The Bode plot function itself is standard.

Can I replay a waveform I captured?

Yes. An arbitrary waveform can be taken directly from the data of an analogue channel, within the 16 kpts memory and 5 MHz of the generator.

How much signal can it deliver?

Up to ±1.5 V into 50 Ω and ±3 V into a high-impedance load, from a 50 Ω output.

Does it do sweep, burst or modulation?

The data sheet lists none of these for the built-in generator. If you need them, look at the SDG series; the oscilloscope can control one for Bode plots.

What do you need from me?

The serial number of the oscilloscope. The key is generated for that instrument only.
