SDS2000HD-I2S — I²S trigger and decode for the SDS2000X HD
A software key that lets the SDS2000X HD trigger on and decode I²S digital audio, including the left- and right-justified formats: samples are read out as values under the waveform and in a table.
I²S carries audio between converters, DSPs and codecs on three wires: a bit clock, a word select line and the data. When something sounds wrong, the electrical signal is usually fine — the fault is in the data: swapped channels, the wrong word length, a sample that clips, a stream that goes silent.
With this key the oscilloscope decodes the three lines into left and right sample values and triggers on what audio engineers actually look for: a data value, mute, clipping or a glitch. Word length is settable from 1 to 32 bits with 0 to 31 start bits, which covers the formats found in practice.

What the key adds
Trigger on data, mute, clip or glitch
And on a rising or falling edge of the decoded value.
Samples as numbers
Left and right values annotated under the waveform and listed in a table.
Three formats
Audio-I²S, left-justified and right-justified, 1 to 32 data bits, 0 to 31 start bits.
Analogue or digital source
BCLK, WS and DATA on C1–C4 or on D0–D15 of the SPL2016.
Which oscilloscope it is for
Both models of the SDS2000X HD series, and an SDS2104X HD you already own. Keys for other Siglent series have their own order codes and are not interchangeable.
I²S needs BCLK, WS and DATA at once. That uses three of the four analogue channels — or none of them, if the bus goes onto the digital channels of the SPL2016 and the analogue inputs stay free for the audio signal itself.

How it is delivered
1 · Send us the serial number
A software key is generated for one instrument. Add the serial number to the order, or mail it afterwards.
2 · Receive the key
The licence key is delivered by e-mail — nothing is shipped and nothing leaves your bench.
3 · Enter it on the oscilloscope
Enter the key in the options menu; the decoder appears in the list of protocols and stays with that unit.
Questions about the SDS2000HD-I2S
Can the oscilloscope trigger on I²S?
Yes: on a data value, on mute, on clipping, on a glitch, and on a rising or falling edge of the value.
Does it decode TDM?
The data sheet lists I²S, left-justified and right-justified. TDM is not listed for this series.
Which word lengths are supported?
1 to 32 data bits, with 0 to 31 start bits.
Can I use the digital channels?
Yes. D0–D15 of the SPL2016 logic probe are valid sources, at 500 MSa/s, which leaves the four analogue channels free for the signals around the bus.
Which bandwidth do I need?
Either model. Even a 24.576 MHz bit clock is far inside the bandwidth of the SDS2204X HD.
What do you need from me?
The serial number of the oscilloscope. The key is generated for that instrument only.
