SDS5000HD-8BW3TA — 350 MHz to 1 GHz, 8-channel

Software licence — activated by key, no hardware

Takes a 350 MHz instrument straight to 1 GHz — €370 less than the two steps.

A bandwidth upgrade is a licence, not a board swap. The analogue front end is already capable of the higher bandwidth; the licence removes the limit in firmware. The instrument stays on your bench, keeps its serial number and calibration history, and the change takes effect as soon as the code is entered.

What this option does

What it does

A single key that raises a 350 MHz SDS5000X HD to the 1 GHz model, skipping the 500 MHz step. On every channel count it costs €370 less than buying the 350 → 500 MHz and 500 MHz → 1 GHz keys separately. There is one key per channel count — 4, 6 or 8 channels — so order the one that matches your instrument.

What you use it for

For a bench whose work has moved well beyond what it was specified for — fast digital, wide-bandgap power — where 500 MHz would only be a stop on the way.

In practice

A lab that bought 350 MHz instruments for embedded control starts characterising SiC and GaN power stages. One key per instrument takes each to 1 GHz in a morning, instead of two purchases or a new oscilloscope.

Before you order

⚠ The supplied passive probes are rated 500 MHz. At 1 GHz the probe, not the oscilloscope, then sets the system bandwidth — use the SP6150A 1.5 GHz passive probe on a 50 Ω input, or an active probe, wherever the full 1 GHz matters.

Questions about SDS5000HD-8BW3TA

Which instrument does SDS5000HD-8BW3TA fit?

The SDS5038X HD — the 8-channel, 350 MHz model. After the key is entered it is the SDS5108X HD. The keys are specific to the channel count, so a 8-channel key does not suit a 4, 6 or 8-channel instrument other than its own; the SDS5000L has keys of its own.

Do I need different probes after the upgrade?

For measurements that need the full 1 GHz, yes. The probes supplied with the instrument are rated 500 MHz, so above that the probe sets the system bandwidth. Use the SP6150A 1.5 GHz passive probe on a 50 Ω input, or an active probe.

Why not buy the two single steps instead?

Because this key costs less than the 350 → 500 MHz and 500 MHz → 1 GHz keys together, on every channel count, and you enter one code instead of two.

Does the upgrade affect calibration?

The instrument keeps its serial number and its calibration history. If your quality system requires a calibration after a specification change, we can arrange ISO or DKD/DAkkS calibration.

How is the licence delivered?

Supplied as a licence key issued against the instrument's serial number. There is no hardware to fit and nothing to return: the code is entered in the instrument's own menu and the function is available immediately, on the instrument you already own. Add the instrument’s serial number to your order, or send it to us afterwards — the key is issued against it.

Can I return a licence?

Software licences and activation keys are delivered electronically and are excluded from the 14-day EU return right once the key has been issued. If you are unsure which key you need, ask us first — with your serial number we can confirm it.

Not sure this is the right key?

Send us your serial number and what you want to measure. We will confirm the exact option before you order.
