Five sprung pogo tips for active probes
A pogo tip is spring-loaded, so it takes up the height difference when the probe is not perfectly perpendicular to the board and keeps contact pressure constant as you move.
That Z-axis compliance is what makes it the right tip for repeated probing of the same point — sockets, vias and IC legs, where a rigid straight tip either slips off or bends the lead you are trying to measure.

When you need it
Probing vias and sockets
The sprung tip seats itself and stays seated, which a rigid tip will not do in a hole.
