What the SVA1000X-EMI licence adds
A failed emissions test is expensive twice: the retest fee, and the weeks of schedule that go with rebooking a chamber. The failure itself is rarely a surprise in hindsight — it is usually a clock harmonic, a switching node or a cable acting as an antenna, all of which are findable on a bench long before anyone books a laboratory.
What a plain spectrum analyser cannot do is measure them the way the standard does. Compliance limits are defined for specific resolution bandwidths and for a quasi-peak detector, which weights a signal by how often it repeats. A peak-detector sweep at an arbitrary RBW produces numbers that cannot be compared with a limit line at all.
The SVA1000X-EMI licence adds the CISPR 16-1-1 bandwidths — 200 Hz, 9 kHz, 120 kHz and 1 MHz at −6 dB — the quasi-peak detector, limit lines and the scan-then-measure workflow that turns a sweep into a list of the worst offenders with a real measurement against each one.

Quasi-peak detector
Weights a signal by its repetition rate, which is why an intermittent spike and a continuous carrier of the same amplitude are not treated alike.

Draw the applicable limit over the trace so pass or fail is visible rather than calculated afterwards.
Scan, then measure
The analyser sweeps, collects the worst peaks into a list, and re-measures each with the quasi-peak and average dwell — the same sequence a test house follows.
A switching supply fails radiated emissions at the test house around 32 MHz. Back on the bench with a near-field probe, the peak scan finds the same line sitting on the transformer. You add the snubber and watch the peak fall against the limit line, and you rebook the laboratory only once it clears with margin — instead of paying to be told the same thing twice.

The licence is keyed to the series, so it runs on every SVA1000X model — each up to its own top frequency. Quote your instrument’s serial number when ordering and the key is issued against it.

Questions we get asked
Does this give me a compliance certificate?
No, and nothing on a bench can. Formal compliance is measured in an accredited laboratory with a calibrated site, a LISN or an antenna at a defined distance, and a controlled ambient. This is pre-compliance: finding and fixing the problems that would otherwise fail you there.
Why can't I just use the normal peak detector?
Because the limits are not written for it. A quasi-peak detector charges and discharges with defined time constants, so a spike that repeats a few times a second reads well below a continuous carrier of identical amplitude. Measured with peak instead, you will chase problems that are not there and pass things that are.
Can I measure conducted emissions with this?
The analyser and the licence handle the measurement side. Conducted testing also needs a LISN to present a defined impedance to the mains and to couple the disturbance out safely, which is separate equipment.
