SDS-5000X-4BW10 — 500 MHz to 1 GHz, 4-channel

Software licence — activated by key, no hardware

Raises the analogue bandwidth from 500 MHz to 1 GHz by key, on the 500 MHz model.

A bandwidth upgrade is a licence, not a board swap. The analogue front end is already capable of the higher bandwidth; the licence removes the limit in firmware. The instrument stays on your bench, keeps its serial number and calibration history, and the change takes effect as soon as the code is entered.

What this option does

What it does

A software key that turns a 500 MHz SDS5000X into the 1 GHz model — the SDS5054X into the SDS5104X, or on the 2-channel instrument the SDS5052X into the SDS5102X. It is entered on the instrument; no part is changed.

What you use it for

1 GHz is the bandwidth for fast digital interfaces and wide-bandgap switching, where edges are measured in hundreds of picoseconds.

In practice

Measuring the switching edge of a GaN half-bridge, where the real transition is well under a nanosecond. The oscilloscope’s own rise time falls from 0.7 ns to 0.4 ns, so far less of the measured edge belongs to the instrument.

Before you order

⚠ Siglent state that a 350 MHz model cannot be upgraded to 1 GHz, so this key is for instruments bought as 500 MHz models. ⚠ The supplied SP3050A probes are rated 500 MHz: at 1 GHz the probe sets the system bandwidth — use the SP6150A on a 50 Ω input or the SAP1000 active probe wherever the full 1 GHz matters.

Compatibility

This key fits exactly one instrument. Find yours in the table: the row is the channel count, the column the bandwidth it has today.

Questions about SDS-5000X-4BW10

Which instrument does SDS-5000X-4BW10 fit?

The SDS5054X — the 4-channel, 500 MHz model. After the key is entered it is the SDS5104X. The keys are specific to the channel count, so order the 4-channel key for a 4-channel instrument.

My instrument was upgraded from 350 MHz to 500 MHz. Can it take this key?

Siglent state that a 350 MHz model cannot be upgraded to 1 GHz, so this key is for instruments bought as 500 MHz models. If you are not sure how yours started, send us the serial number and we will check before you order.

Do I need different probes after the upgrade?

For measurements that need the full 1 GHz, yes. The SP3050A probes supplied with the instrument are rated 500 MHz, so above that the probe sets the system bandwidth. Use the SP6150A 1.5 GHz passive probe on a 50 Ω input, or the SAP1000 active probe.

Does the upgrade affect calibration?

The instrument keeps its serial number and its calibration history. If your quality system requires a calibration after a specification change, we can arrange ISO or DKD/DAkkS calibration.

How is the licence delivered?

Supplied as a licence key issued against the instrument's serial number. There is no hardware to fit and nothing to return: the code is entered in the instrument's own menu and the function is available immediately, on the instrument you already own. Add the instrument’s serial number to your order, or send it to us afterwards — the key is issued against it.

Can I return a licence?

Software licences and activation keys are delivered electronically and are excluded from the 14-day EU return right once the key has been issued. If you are unsure which key you need, ask us first — with your serial number we can confirm it.

Not sure this is the right key?

Send us your serial number and what you want to measure. We will confirm the exact option before you order.
