Siglent SDS-5000X-CANXL CAN XL decode (software)
Siglent SDS-5000X-CANXL is a CAN XL decode in SIC and fast mode, data phase to 10 Mbps — decode only option for the SDS5000X.
SDS-5000X-CANXL — CAN XL decode (no trigger)
CAN XL decode in SIC and fast mode, data phase to 10 Mbps — decode only.
Supplied as a licence key issued against the instrument's serial number. There is no hardware to fit and nothing to return: the code is entered in the instrument's own menu and the function is available immediately, on the instrument you already own.

What this option does
What it does
Decodes CAN XL frames with transceivers in SIC mode or fast mode, at nominal bit rates from 10 kbps and data-phase rates up to 10 Mbps, or custom rates, from the analogue channels or the SPL2016’s digital channels. It is a decoder only: capture with an edge, pulse-width or pattern trigger.
What you use it for
CAN XL is the third generation of CAN, with larger payloads and a faster data phase than CAN FD. Bringing up a new network means checking both the frames and the switch between arbitration and data phase, where most early faults appear.
In practice
A new CAN XL node works on the bench but errors appear once it runs in fast mode. Decoding the frames with the differential waveform on screen shows whether they fail at the phase switch or in the data field.
⚠ Decode only — the SDS5000X has no CAN XL trigger.
Decode details
From the SDS5000X data sheet.
| Trigger | None — decode only. Capture with an edge, pulse-width or pattern trigger. |
| Transceiver mode | SIC mode or fast mode |
| Nominal bit rate | 10 kbps to 10 Mbps, or custom |
| Data-phase bit rate | 500 kbps to 10 Mbps, or custom |
| Decode from | Analogue channels C1–C4 or SPL2016 digital channels D0–D15 |
| Decoders at once | 2, full duplex |
| Standard on every SDS5000X | I²C, SPI, UART, CAN, LIN — no key needed |
Compatibility
The option runs on every SDS5000X model, at every bandwidth. It is newer than Siglent’s 2019 data sheet, so an instrument from that period needs current firmware first.
| Channels | 350 MHz | 500 MHz | 1 GHz |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4-channel | Compatible | Compatible | Compatible |
| 2-channel | SDS5032X (no longer made) With current firmware | SDS5052X (no longer made) With current firmware | SDS5102X (no longer made) With current firmware |
The 2-channel SDS5032X, SDS5052X and SDS5102X are no longer made; their keys remain available. The SDS5000X HD is a different series with its own option keys.

Questions about SDS-5000X-CANXL
Can I trigger on CAN XL data?
No. On the SDS5000X CAN XL is decode only. Capture with an edge, pulse-width or pattern trigger, and the decoder reads what was captured.
Can I decode from the SPL2016 logic probe?
Yes. CAN XL decodes from the analogue channels or from the SPL2016’s 16 digital channels.
Does it work on an older SDS5000X?
Siglent’s 2019 data sheet does not list CAN XL, so an instrument from that period needs current firmware before the key can be used. Send us the serial number and we will confirm before you order.
Which protocols are already included?
I²C, SPI, UART, CAN and LIN trigger and decode are standard on every SDS5000X. CAN FD, FlexRay, I²S, MIL-STD-1553B and SENT are trigger-and-decode keys; CAN XL, Manchester, ARINC 429 and SpaceWire are decode-only keys. Two decoders run at the same time.
How is the licence delivered?
Supplied as a licence key issued against the instrument's serial number. There is no hardware to fit and nothing to return: the code is entered in the instrument's own menu and the function is available immediately, on the instrument you already own. Add the instrument’s serial number to your order, or send it to us afterwards — the key is issued against it.
Can I return a licence?
Software licences and activation keys are delivered electronically and are excluded from the 14-day EU return right once the key has been issued. If you are unsure which key you need, ask us first — with your serial number we can confirm it.
Not sure this is the right key?
Send us your serial number and what you want to measure. We will confirm the exact option before you order.
